Aydın Karaçanta BSc (Biochemistry), BPsych (Hons), MClinPsych, PhD
(Macquarie)
Aydın completed a Bachelor of Psychology (honours) degree, a Masters
degree in Clinical Psychology, and a PhD at Macquarie University
in Sydney, Australia. He also graduated with a Bachelor of Science
degree in Biochemistry from the University of Calgary in Canada.
Aydın has 11 years of experience in psychotherapy with adults
and adolescents. In 2000, he worked in a health education project
at the Ministry of Health in Sydney that aimed suicide prevention
among young people and focused on romantic relationships. During
the same year he worked as a counselor at a youth centre.
Aydın did his internship as a cilinical psychologist in four centres.
The first of these was The Rod Power Psychology Clinic at Macquarie
University. Next, he conducted individual and group therapy for
people with anxiety problems at Bankstown Hospital Anxiety Disorders
Clinic. His third internship was at the child and family mental
health unit of Waverley Community Health Centre. Finally, he completed
his internship at Boğaziçi University Centre for Psychological Research
and Services (BÜPAM) and qualified as a registered clinical psychologist
in NSW, Australia. He worked as a clinical psychologist at the Student
Counseling Center at Bahçeşehir University between 2007 and 2009.
Aydın's PhD research was in the area of emotions and self-regulation,
and involved investigating the effects of anger on persisting toward
one's goals. He has also done research that looked at behavioural
effects of empathy and guilt; and mental health and suicide among
young people. He presented his research in conferences in Australia,
New Zealand, and Germany. He worked as a teaching assistant at Macquarie
University. The courses he taught were Emotion and Social Motivation,
Research Methods in Social Psychology, and Statistics. He has been
teaching part-time at the Psychology Department at Yeditepe University
since 2009.
Aydın has received a number of academic awards, including the
Australian Postgraduate Award, Macquarie University Vice-Chancellor's
Award for Academic Excellence, Macquarie University Honours Award,
and the Golden Key Society Award.
